This lawyer has spent half her life tracking down overfishing and fighting for sustainability in the sector.

Laura Rodríguez Zugasti has been running the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for Spain and Portugal since 2010. MSC is an international NGO created to bring an end to overfishing with a leading programme in sustainable fishing certification and labelling. Her work centres on fostering environmental sustainability in the fishing sector and the sea produce value chain, and on implementing initiatives and raising public awareness on conservation of the oceans.

Rodríguez previously worked with Fairtrade, first at the International Solidarity foundation and subsequently at the IDEAS Solidarity Economy cooperative. At the cooperative she pioneered a responsible purchasing programme targeting the integration of ethical and social criteria in public and private procurement. She is also a graduate in Law, and holds a Business diploma from the CEU San Pablo University, and also a Corporate Lawyer Master's. She is also a founding partner and member of the Board of the association of expert female sustainability managers Women Action Sustainability.
