The oceans as a source of life and of sustainable and fair transformative changes for Humanity

Oceans have the ability to generate transformative changes that reverse climate change and the loss of biodiversity.

Human activities are undermining the world's health and welfare on an unprecedented level, and humanity faces a number of unavoidable factors such as climate change and the loss of biodiversity, which may constitute a turning point for the planet's resilience.

The oceans, however, furnish key foodstuffs for human wellness and health on a daily basis, and generate job prospects for more than four billion people worldwide. Given their enormous potential as suppliers of goods and services, University of Santiago de Compostela professor and researcher Sebastián Villasante will explain why oceans have the ability to generate positive transformational changes to help reverse the current situation and move towards a fairer and more sustainable planet.
