A future for the sea anemones

The future of sea anemones is uncertain due to poaching and the threat of an invasive species of algae.

Sea anemones (Anemonia sulcata and Anemonia viridis) are dark, edible, viscous species, in iridescent green, pinkish and violet.

They have recently become a gastronomic delicacy at a handful of restaurants, most of which are found in Andalusia.

The sea anemone is now under threat due to the spread of an Asian seaweed known as Rugulopterix okamurae.
